PreS-Gr 3-The Berenstains use their lovable bears to portray 23 Old and New Testament stories. A female narrator reads the text in a warm, inviting voice. As Brother, Sister, and Honey Bear settle down for the night, Papa Bear takes out the family Bible and tells his cubs, "The Bible has all kinds of stories-exciting ones, nice ones, happy ones, and even serious ones." From the Creation story through St. Paul's missionary work, the cubs are an attentive audience. Among the stories are Adam and Eve, Noah's Ark, Moses and the Ten Commandments, and the Birth of Jesus. The book illustrations feature bear characters and compliment the text. The stories stand alone to impart their message, free of explanations and invitations to prayer. The Berenstains have brought Bible stories and their well-loved bears together with childlike charm that will be comfortable to a broad range of readers and listeners. This edition can serve as a Bible source for early readers and well as older reluctant readers.-Mary Lee Bulat, Harwinton Public Library, CTα(c) Copyright 2013. Library Journal.
